Man dies after severely beating elderly man and S.F. officer

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A man who got into a scuffle with San Francisco police officers following a hit-and-run crash has died.

The San Francisco Chronicle ( ) reports that 57-year-old Filimoni Raiyawa died Thursday. Two officers were injured.

Police say Raiyawa got into a three-vehicle crash soon after leaving the home of a 96-year-old man who was found badly beaten.

Following the crash police say he got out of his vehicle, shouted incoherently at and then chased the driver of the car he had rear-ended.

When two officers arrived police say he attacked both, beating one nearly unconscious.

He was eventually restrained by police and passers-by and placed in handcuffs.

Soon after, police say, he stopped breathing and couldn't be revived.
