A Biggs man and his dog were found dead when firefighters responded to a house fire Wednesday.

Fire officials say one of the victim’s co-workers went to the home on the 2400 block of West Biggs Gridley Road Wednesday morning, because the resident never showed up for work. The co-worker told authorities he could see smoke coming from the home when he arrived.

Firefighters arrived at the house around 10 a.m., and attempted to rescue the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time it is unknown how the man died, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it may have started in the kitchen.

The victim's name has not been released.
