VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man who allegedly set fire to five cars in the parking lot of the Ventura County Government Center.
California Highway Patrol officers leaving a detention facility saw the cars ablaze at around 4:15 a.m. Saturday in Ventura.
One car had moderate damage but the others are considered total losses.
The county Sheriff's Office says deputies took 36-year-old Jeffrey Landis of Santa Monica into custody with the help of a police dog after he resisted arrest. He was treated for minor injuries and remains jailed on suspicion of arson and resisting arrest.
Authorities say a bomb squad was called after Landis indicated he might have an explosive device in his backpack. Nothing dangerous was found.
There's no word on a motive for the arson.
