Man arrested after fight leads to severed finger

One Chico man is in jail and another is in the hospital after a fight broke out leading to one man losing his finger, the Chico Police Department reported Wednesday morning.

Colby Thompson, 26, got into an altercation with an unidentified victim after Thompson walked away from an altercation with his girlfriend, challenging anyone in the vicinity to a fight.

The victim, 34 who lives on the same street as Thompson, got into an argument with the suspect and grabbed a pipe for self-defense. Police said the suspect overpowered the victim and took the pipe, striking the victim in his left hand severing his finger completely.

Thompson initially fled the scene but turned himself into police this morning.

Thompson was positively identified by the victim as the suspect and was arrested. He was transported to Butte County Jail facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery causing significant injury. His bond is set at $80,000.
