Man arrested after car chase, foot pursuit through orchard

Butte County authorities have arrested a man Thursday after he ran from police in a stolen car, and then tried to break into a woman's house near Durham.

The chase started sometime before 12:30 p.m. when Chico police spotted and then followed a stolen car at speeds in excess of 100 mph. The car eventually crashed rolled over in an orchard near Oroville Chico Highway.

The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Martin Gomez, was able to flee from the wreckage, and reportedly attempted to break into a nearby home. The homeowner called 911, and a search party comprised of the Chico Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Butte County Sheriff's Office were able to him into custody around 1:30 p.m.
