Chico Police say they arrested a man Friday morning for allegedly stealing a car despite their being a young child in the backseat.

Police say a Chico man called police regarding a stolen vehicle on the 1200 block of Normal Avenue around 8:45 a.m.

The victim said a black man had just gotten into his vehicle and drove away. The man said the vehicle was running in his driveway, with his daughter in the backseat, when he quickly ran back into his home. It was then that the suspect stole the car, but fortunately the young girl was able to escape while the suspect was getting in the car.

Officers relayed information about the vehicle and used cell phone tracking technology to locate the suspect about 15 minutes later.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Nathaniel Henson, of Chico was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail.

Action News Now reporter Joe Moeller spoke with the victim and will have the full story tonight at 5 p.m.
