Man accused of killing, cooking ex's dog to stand trial

A Shasta County judge has ordered the Palo Cedro man accused of killing his girlfriend's dog and then feeding her part of the remains will stand trial.

34-year-old Ryan Watenpaugh was in court today for a preliminary hearing, he has pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic violence, stalking, animal cruelty, and imprisonment.

According to Redding Police investigators, Watenpaugh sent gruesome, detailed messages to his then-girlfriend, causing her to believe he was responsible for her dog's disappearance.

In court today, Watenpaugh's ex-girlfriend gave harrowing details of her abusive relationship.

Watenpaugh will be back in court for an arraignment hearing on November 18.
