According to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office the man accused of killing his girlfriend's dog and then feeding her part of the remains posted bail today.

The 34-year-old Watenpaugh indicated he had the funds to post bail from the day he was taken into custody, but the investigating officer placed a hold on Watenpaugh's bail suspecting the funds may be tied to an illegal marijuana grow.

The hold was lifted Wednesday morning after Watenpaugh was able to prove during a hearing that the funds he would be using to post bail were legitimately obtained by his mother.

Watenpaugh was arrested last week for allegedly sending gruesome, detailed messages to his then-girlfriend, causing her to believe he was responsible for her dog's disappearance.

According to Redding Police the couple was involved in an argument back on August 4th, which prompted Watenpaugh's girlfriend to leave his home -- when she later returned -- Watenpaugh and her dog "Bear" were missing.

The couple reconciled after a short period of time and Watenpaugh tried to make things right again by cooking for his girlfriend, but it's what he said he cooked that she found extremely disturbing.

Watenpaugh reportedly asked the vicitm "how Bear" tasted"...obviously referencing the meal he prepared for her."

Watenpaugh is scheduled to be in court again on September 23 for a preliminary hearing.
