GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - A 55-year-old man has turned himself in to police in the Los Angeles area the day after a 4-year-old girl was hit and killed on the street in front of her house.
Glendale police say Shant Badleean was joined by his family when he turned himself in at the department Saturday.
A day earlier, 4-year-old Violeta Khachaturyan (kah-chuh-TUHR'-ee-uhn) ran between two cars and into the street before she was hit. The impact threw her into the air and into a parked car before she fell to the street.
Badleean is being held on $50,000 bail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Officer Tom Lorenz tells the Los Angeles Times there was nothing the driver could have done, and had he stayed at the scene no crime would have been committed.
