Major Accident Closed East First Ave. in Chico

UPDATE: When police arrived on scene they found the bicyclist was unconscious and had sustained major injuries from the collision. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Amanda McClintock. She was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license and was ultimately arrested. McClintock may have additional criminal charges filed at a later time pending the outcome of the investigation. The 20-year-old woman has been identified as Janee Nickerson, a Chico resident. Police say doctors have declared Nickerson brain dead but remains on life support.

East First Avenue in Chico is completely shut down Friday night between Esplanade and Highway 99 because of a serious accident involving a pedestrian struck by a car. The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. at Oleander. Police investigators are not releasing the condition of the person who was hit. East First Avenue was closed to allow the Major Accident Investigation Team to work on scene. It's not expected to re-open until after midnight.
