Paradise Police are investigating an assault tonight, after a man was attacked with an axe handle.
It happened around 1:30 this morning in the 63-hundred block of Azalea Lane.
Police received a call about an assault, when they arrived, the victim, a 41-year old man from Magalia, was attempting to leave in a vehicle. Police stopped him and he was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, officers learned the victim was in a verbal dispute with a resident over a debt owed to him. The resident's son, 22-year old Jacob Myers, overheard the verbal altercation taking place on the front porch of the residence and he walked up behind the victim and without warning struck him with the ax handle one time on the side of the head.
The victim was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground.
The victim's girlfriend who was in a nearby vehicle called 9-1-1.
Jacob Myers was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Assault causing Great Bodily Injury.
He was booked into the Butte County Jail with his Bail set at $80,000.00.
