Lumpkin Fire grows to 600 acres

Fire officials say the Lumpkin Fire burning near Lumpkin Road and McCabe Cove between Feather Falls and Forbestown has now burned 600 acres.

Since the fire broke out Friday afternoon crews have been battling flames in steep and rugged terrain, and as of 8 a.m. Monday the blaze was reported as 25 percent contained.

Eight firefighters have suffered non-life threatening injuries, but fortunately no structures have been destroyed and only two are threatened.

Evacuation warnings have been issued for Ponderosa Way between Lower Forbestown Road and the Ponderosa Reservoir and Lumpkin Road from the Enterprise Bridge to the community of Feather Falls and all roads that connect to Lumpkin Road, however no mandatory evacuations are in place.

Traffic on Ponderosa Way and Lower Forbestown Road is being controlled, allowing only residents and emergency equipment through. CAL Fire officials are asking locals to use caution while traveling in the area.
