LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man trapped in a burning Los Angeles home has died and five other people have been injured, two of them critically.
The Echo Park home went up in flames shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday. More than 50 firefighters doused the blaze in about a half-hour. The dead man was found inside the single-story house.
City fire spokesman Erik Scott tells the Los Angeles Times that the attic had been converted into a living space.
Two other men were hospitalized in critical condition.
A man and a woman had minor injuries. A firefighter also was treated for minor injuries.
A nearby hotel was evacuated during the blaze.
There's no word on what sparked the fire and or whether the home was equipped with smoke alarms.
