COVINA, Calif. (AP) - A police officer has died after a collision with a vehicle while on patrol on a motorcycle in a Los Angeles County suburb.
Covina police spokesman Sgt. Gregg Peterson says the vehicle made a left turn in front of the officer at a city intersection Tuesday afternoon.
The officer ran into the vehicle and was thrown from his motorcycle onto the road and was declared dead at a hospital soon after.
The driver was also hospitalized, but there was no immediate word on their condition.
The officer's name has not been released.
Covina is a suburb some 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
