A Paradise Bobcat scratched and clawed his way to an impressive performance in the USAW Junior Greco-Roman Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota.
Wyatt Wyckoff, a two-time state runner up, secured eight victories in ten matches, including five in a row at one point to pin down All-America honors in Greco wrestling with a fourth place finish in the 145-pound division.
What makes his result even more impressive is the fact that he battled injuries throughout the tournament.
Wyckoff said the trainers told him he suffered a mild concussion during his fourth match, but he chose to keep wrestling. He also suffered three dislocated ribs in his final match.
Wyckoff, a senior at Paradise High, said he's had many high points in his wrestling career, but this one ranks near the top.
"Everybody's goal is to be an All-American and to be able to accomplish that is crazy especially with those injuries that I had. I mean it was definitely a little frustrating but once they said I could keep wrestling I knew that I just had to push through it and go out there and do my best no matter what happened," said Wyckoff.
