Local country singer Summer Schappell made her prime time television debut on NBC’s The Voice Monday night.

The 22-year-old Enterprise High School graduate, who grew up in Lakehead and Redding impressed the judges her rendition of Strawberry Wine during the show’s blind auditions.

Country superstar Blake Shelton’s team was already full, but Gwen Stefani and Pharrell turned around and asked Summer to join their teams.

She decided on team Gwen. “She (Gwen) likes to be different, and she supports people, especially in country, I strive to be a little different then what we have right now, so it was a match made in heaven” Summer said.

Next up for Summer is the battle round, where she will go head-to-head with another contestant on her own team, with Gwen Stefani deciding which one moves on.

On Action News Now at 5 and 6 p.m. Tuesday reporter Charlene Cheng sits down with Summer to find out more about her path to stardom.
