Local school children donated close to $650 to a charity after their Valentine’s Day fundraiser.
Students at Shasta Elementary raised the money for the Handi-Riders of Northern California by making their own candy for Valentine’s Day... and donating the money saved to the charity.
The student's teacher says the fundraising effort provided a valuable lesson for the children.
Mary Schoenthaler said she was very proud of her students and used the donation as a teaching moment about community help.
“It's important, I think, building awareness of your community and doing for others is an important characteristic and quality for kids to have and foster," she said.
Handi-Riders uses horse riding lessons as therapy for the physically, developmentally and emotionally challenged.
