A local homeless shelter is looking for volunteers to help staff it through the rest of winter.

The Chico Housing Action Team's winter shelter is expecting to stay busy through February with more cold and wet weather still on the horizon but are having trouble staffing its overnight shelter.

The shelter needs about 25 volunteers per night to provide all of its services.

Jim Williams, the laundry coordinator, said the shelter is getting by, but just barely.

“We have people at the intake center, then we have people at the shelter then we have people who stay overnight to ensure the safety,” he said.

The shelter is scheduled to stay open through February.

The program serves up to 58 guests a night by providing meals and bedding.

Anyone interested in volunteering can find out more on the housing action team's Facebook page.
