Known to many North State residents as "The History Dude" ... The family of Historian Mike Hamilton reports he passed away at Enloe Medical Center in Chico on Friday, March 14th, following a brief illness.
Hamilton delivered reports about local history for more than a decade on KHSL Television's Noon news.
His voice was also heard on North State radio.
Hamilton travelled the back roads of the region, tracking down wagon wheel ruts from covered wagons and visiting grave sites ... to bring us stories of what life was like for early settlers here.
Originally from Michigan, Hamilton moved to Chico in 1978.
In addition to sharing his knowledge of history, he also loved playing the role of "Santa" for hundreds of children who visited his sleigh outside a florists shop on the Esplanade, for 18 seasons.
Hamilton's brother Ted posted this to Facebook about Mike, "He always thought that he had a rich life and (was a lucky man) here in Chico, and had many good friends from the area."
Hamilton was 60 years old.###
