Firefighters from Chico, Oroville and Paradise are in El Dorado County helping crews battle the massive King Fire, now threatening thousands of homes.
The blaze has damaged or destroyed multiple structures and driven 2,800 people from their homes. It has consumed about 120 square miles and is 10 percent contained.
Firefighters from all over the state have been brought in to assist with the fight. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced Friday that crews dumped 203,375 gallons of fire retardant on the fire Wednesday, a single day record.
Marie Fickert, of the Chico Fire Department, says the local crews in El Dorado County are doing whatever they can to help, some are battling the blaze along the fire lines and others are helping Cal Fire officials gather information.
Here in Chico, off-duty personnel are filling spots to ensure the cities fire stations remain staffed. There is no word as to when the local firefighters will be released from the King Fire.
