With less than a week left before 19-year-old Cottonwood resident Austin Shelp leaves for the Philippines, his family is making the final preparations for this two-year long mission trip.
"As a parent, you feel proud, but you're also a little worried too sending him there, but in the long run it's going to be good for him to grow and to help people over there," said Austin's father John Shelp.
Helping people rebuild their lives after a large disaster will be a drastic change from Austin's current job at Papa Murphy's.
"It'll be great to help out the people that have lost family members or just need help, and that's part of the reason I'm going there, to serve others," said Austin.
Despite the difficulties ahead, the Shelps are excited for Austin's trip.
And here in the U.S., Jackie and John Shelp will be helping their local church put together hygiene and school kits and collect donations to send to the victims.
