One day after the owner of a miniature Australian Shepherd found the dog returned dead in her yard, dog owners of Chico are on edge.

Dog owners at Degarmo dog park are on edge today.

Melisa and Joshua Schultz, adopted their dog Maverick about a year ago.

“I felt really scared just because I consider dogs like family. So I would feel really afraid if somebody would do that to our dog, our family,” Melisa Schultz said.

The Chico Police Department confirmed they are following a case involving an attempted theft of an American bulldog on Cherry Street yesterday in Chico.

They cannot say whether their case and the county's are related.
