Community members are lending a helping hand to a Chico family, who lost a mother and brother in a tragic car accident last month. The owner of Fit One in Chico, Heather Deluca, and more than two dozen parents from Shasta Elementary School in Chico held the fundraiser from one to three Sunday.
Pahuoua Lo and her sixteen year old son were driving to Eureka last month when their car skidded off highway 299. The vehicle landed in the Trinity River west of Salyer, where the two drowned. Deluca, whose daughter attends school with one of the eight children left behind wanted to do something to help. "I can not imagine being a child and not have a father or mother, especially that big of a family with that many children. Marisa is in Bella's class, one of the children, and I know her well and I feel the need to help," Deluca explained.
The fundraiser included a bake sale, a bounce house, aerobic and pilates classes. The event raised more than a thousand dollars for the Lo family. If you would like to make a donation, you can drop it off or mail it to Shasta school in Chico at 169 Leora Court. Another fundraiser will be held for the Lo family April 27th at La Comida restaurant in Chico.
