It might be spring, but a big local football event took place Saturday with the teams for the upcoming 37th annual Lions All-Star football game being announced at a banquet at Butte College.
Dozens of people attended the event as players and coaches from the north and south squads met their new teammates and spent time with family and friends.
The 11-man and the 8-man games will kick off on Saturday, July 19th, at Shasta College in Redding.
The games represent the last time for football players to strap on the helmets and shoulder pads at the prep level.
"I can't describe it right now but it's going to come to me, it's going to be an emotional game for me and most of the guys. I can tell you that," said Chico High graduate and South team member, Malik Hopkins.
Foothill High's Ryan Pollard, a member of the north team, agreed with Hopkins.
"It's a huge honor to be able to say I played in the Lions All-Star game and to be able to share it with some guys that I haven't played with before, it's going to be a good experience all the way around."
All game proceeds will benefit a diabetic camp from Camp McCumber in Shingletown.
