Leyland Steps Down as Tigers Manager

DETROIT (AP) - Jim Leyland has resigned as manager of the Detroit Tigers. He told reporters he simply came to the realization that, "the fuel's getting a little low."

The 69-year old led the Tigers for eight seasons and will stay with the organization in some other capacity. His record with the Tigers was 700-597 with two World Series appearances, both losses.

His overall managerial record with the Tigers, Pirates, Marlins and Rockies is 1,769-1,728. He won the World Series in 1997 with the Marlins.
