Law enforcement officials in Trinity County and surrounding jurisdictions are currently searching for two teenagers who escaped the Trinity County Juvenile Hall last night. The two reportedly escaped around 8:30 p.m. by scaling a perimeter fence in an outdoor recreation area.
According to the Trinity County Probation Department, an immediate search of the area was undertaken by probation officers in tandem with sheriff deputies, CHP, and Fish and Game Wardens. The search eventually proved unsuccessful.
The department indicated today the facility has a capacity of 28, but only 6 to 7 juveniles were housed at the facility at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement agencies in and surrounding Trinity County have been notified of the escape and have been given the names, photos, and physical descriptions of the teenagers. The Probation Department was unable to provide any of those details to Action News Now because of the age of the escapees and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The Probation Department stated in a press release today an investigation is also underway into the circumstances leading up to the escape in order to identify any procedures or protocols which may not have been followed by the facility’s staff. They also stated they will look into any “physical security issues that may have contributed to the incident.”
Although neither of the teens have a history of violent behavior, the department will apply all necessary resources in order to locate them. At the time of the escape, both teens were dressed in dark blue pocket less trousers with matching T-Shirts and black shoes with white soles.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 623-2611 or the Trinity County Probation Department at (530) 623-1204.
