Las Plumas High School students and the community of Oroville are remembering a basketball player who died in a head-on car crash in Oroville Friday afternoon.
Family and friends identified Cameron Sabatino,17, as the high school student who died in the crash, two other students were also in the white ‘Chrysler Crossfire' when the crash occurred, they were taken to a local hospital.
According to investigators, the 17-year-old driver of the white sedan was traveling southbound with Sabatino and a 14-year-old student in the passenger seats heading back to campus after lunch when they collided with a silver SUV.
The California Highway Patrol says the white sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed during the time of the crash, both passengers were not wearing a seatbelt.
Sabatino friend Zeke Duggar says he is still in shock that his friend and teammate is gone.
"There's no other basketball player who had his talent, he was the last one here that had a chance to make it pretty much that still went to Las Plumas," Dugger said.
Now the healing begins for the Las Plumas High School as they try to cope with the loss of their basketball star who wore his number 11 jersey proudly.
