Both Las Plumas High School and Oakdale Heights Elementary School were both ordered into a “shelter in-place” lock downs just after 1 p.m. this afternoon after reports of gunfire near the elementary school.
Rick Desimone, Principal of Oakdale Heights, confirmed his school ordered the lock down after someone reportedly heard gunshots in the neighborhood near the school. After a soft lock down was ordered at Oakdale Heights, Las Plumas High, located approximately a half mile down the street, was also ordered into a shelter in-place lock down.
Both schools were locked down for approximately 10-20 minutes and classes resumed as normal afterwards, according to school officials.
The Butte County Sheriff’s Department and school resource officers said they checked out the neighborhood around Oakdale Heights but didn’t find anything suspicious.
