A meeting which was originally made to come up with a plan to combat the relocation of a violent sexual predator in Butte County took a celebratory tone as news came that the landlord changed his mind to house Frasuire Earl Smith.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey told the people in attendance that the landlord who was originally offered $3500 a month to house smith withdrew his offer, due in part to pressure from the community.
Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said the community should get credit for their vigilance.
“I think credit goes to the community,” he said. “We sounded the alarm because we saw a significant threat to public safety but the response from the community was overwhelming.”
A hearing in Solano County on where to house smith is still scheduled for May 10.
