LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a deputy is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg inflicted by a department colleague who accidentally fired a personal weapon during a camping trip.
A department statement says the accidental shooting occurred in a remote area of Kern County Sunday morning and involved deputies from the sheriff's Palmdale station. Details of the accident were not released.
Officials say the wounded deputy was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff's Internal Affairs and Homicide bureaus are investigating the incident, as is the Kern County Sheriff's Department.
