EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) - Kobe Bryant essentially lost last season to injury. Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is confident Bryant will bounce back impressively.
Kupchak radiated optimism Friday while discussing the Lakers' prospects for the upcoming season. Los Angeles missed the playoffs last spring for just the third time in 38 years, but the GM believes he has a playoff-contending roster in place around Bryant.
He acknowledges the Lakers' hopes hinge on the health of guards Bryant and Steve Nash, who both barely played last season.
But both stars appear to be fully recovered after an extra-long offseason. Kupchak also says he would support Byron Scott if the new coach elects to limit the guards' minutes or participation in back-to-back games.
Los Angeles opens training camp Monday.
