This morning a Butte County Jury has found former Butte County Sheriff's Deputy Earl Klapperich guilty of attempting to meet up with a young girl for sex. 28-year-old Earl Klapperich was arrested in May of last year after a sting operation that involved texts by an undercover officer impersonating as 14-year-old girl. Before the jury began deliberating Monday, Klapperich took the stand in his defense stating he had never intended to have sex with the girl because he claimed he was gay.
Prosecutors refute those claims and pointed out his marriage and evidence of past sexual encounters with other women.
He faces a maximum sentence of 8 months in prison, his sentencing date is scheduled for August 28.
