A popular Chico diner is closed for the day after a morning fire started in the kitchen.
Chico Fire Department responded to the scene around 6:20 a.m. at the Country Waffles Restaurant located on Rio Lindo Avenue.
The fire activated the fire retardant system and the manager used a fire extinguisher to help contain the flames before fire crews arrived.
The restaurant was evacuated and no one was hurt, damages are estimated at $8,000 dollars.
The manager says they will rebound from this.
"Loss of income for the day, we had to throw out a lot of product, it's a loss we have to take and move on. Hopefully we'll open up tomorrow morning more strong and go from there," Country Waffles manager, Qaiser Ahmad said.
Cleanup is underway and the restaurant expects to re-open for normal business hours on Friday.
