A new game combining two popular sports is set to debut in Butte County and as Action News Now's Ross Field tells us, a golf course near Paradise is hoping it breathes new life onto the links.
Fairways like you've never seen them before. Instead of golf clubs the players are packing carts with soccer balls for a round of footgolf.
"I could definitely see my and friends and I doing this," says Lexie Daniels.
Aaron Vought adds, "I think it could be really popular!"
Footgolf combines the sports of soccer and golf. It's popular in Europe and is gaining steam in the States. It's now offered at hundreds of golf courses across the country and Tuscan Ridge Golf Club wants to get in on the action.
General Manager Jim Berkowitz says he discovered the game in Sacramento and thought 'why not give it a shot.'
"It just felt like a real natural progression for the club," says Berkowitz.
Footgolf is almost the same as regular golf except for instead of swings, you have to try and get the ball in the hole in as few kicks as possible.
Berkowitz hopes the game brings a different breed of athletes into the links and a new revenue stream.
"Of course the soccer players and the golfers are going to have a good time with this, but I've already brought out a couple friends that don't either and they had a great time," said Berkowitz.
Tuscan Ridge will launch Footgolf with a grand opening ceremony on Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 p.m..
Berkowitz says they're offering a free round to anyone who attends.
