A jury was seated Monday in the murder trial for the Chico man charged with strangling his wife to death.
The jury of three men and nine women was finally seated 30-year old Zir Weems. It took four days for prosecutors and defense attorneys to agree on candidates and select the jury.
Opening statements will be held Tuesday afternoon.
Prosecutors allege Weems killed his wife, 23-year old Angelica Weems in September of 2014 and left her body near an orchard.
Angelica was reported missing on September 14, five months after filing a restraining order against her husband for abuse.
Deputy District Attorney Stacy Edwards, who prosecuting the case, said the last day of the trial is expected to be March 21.
Angelica was the mother of four children.
