Awards were presented this week during a reception for the opening of the Butte County Office of Education Superintendent's 2nd Annual Juried High School Art Show.
The show, at the new Butte County Superior Courthouse in Chico, opened March 1st. The artwork will remain on display through the end of the month in celebration of National Youth Art Month.
This year, the high school visual art teachers from 14 Butte County High Schools selected up to ten pieces of their best student art from grades 9-12 to enter in the show.
Dr. Cris Guenter, Professor of Education and Art at CSU Chico, David Tamori, artist and retired AP High School Art Teacher, and Action News Now News Anchor and arts advocate Linda Watkins-Bennett judged the pieces based on: technical skills; visual analysis and critical thinking; and expression of artistic voice.
This high student art show is part of BCOE's Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Program which was created in 2014-15 to support a renaissance in arts education in Butte County schools ... after years of arts education program cuts. ###
