Jason Dunn, the Redding man who sawed his own hands off after stabbing his father Gregory Dunn with a pair of scissors, was in court today.
Sentencing was scheduled to take place today, after Dunn accepted a plea deal last month. The plea deal will send Dunn to a mental hospital rather than prison.
A Shasta County Judge has ordered Dunn to undergo a mental evaluation that will be submitted to the California State Mental Board and be used in determining which mental health facility Dunn is placed in.
Dunn will spend at least seven years in a state mental facility, longer if he’s determined to pose a danger to the public.
Dunn will be back in court May 12.
