SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - An Irish college student injured in a balcony collapse in Berkeley, California, that killed six other young people in June plans to speak to the media in some of the first public comments from a victim.
Niall Murray has been receiving treatment at a San Jose hospital since the packed balcony snapped off an apartment building during a birthday party and flung 13 people five stories below to the street.
Six students were killed and seven others were hospitalized. Five of the dead were Irish students working in the San Francisco Bay Area for the summer, and the sixth was an Irish-American from California.
City inspectors have said the balcony was supported by wooden beams that had been badly rotted by water damage.
Murray plans to return to Ireland soon.
