Invoice scam hits North State businesses

The Redding Fire Department issued a warning to area business owners Tuesday to be on the lookout for a fire inspection invoice scam currently making its way through the area.

According to the fire department the scammer is a vendor known as RMZ and has a UPS Box at a Walnut Creek address. RMZ sends residents and businesses a phony invoice for $413.11 that supposedly covers an annual state required fire safety equipment inspection.

Fire officials say there are legitimate state inspections, so residents should make sure they know who conducts their inspections.

Anyone contacted by the RMZ vendor is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.
