One May 24, a farm worker stumbled across a body burned nearly beyond recognition in an orchard south of Hamilton City.
Using palm prints and dental records, the victim was identified as Russian-born Marat Magdeev, 21. Investigators say he Magdeev had no obvious ties to Glenn County.
Weeks after his death, his mother traveled from New York to place flowers on the spot where his body was found.
June 11, a witness spotted a burning SUV in an orchard in Butte County. Firefighters found the body of a man inside, and investigators call the death "suspicious."
He has not been positively identified.
Despite the similarities, investigators do not believe the two cases are related. An autopsy on the second victim is scheduled for next week.
