Investigation continues in Redding home explosion

It's been over 24 hours, but details are still sparse on a chemical explosion that happened in a Redding residence.

What we do know is that emergency personnel were called to a house on Chaparral Drive, where a man suffered injuries following an explosion.

Lt. Tom Campbell with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office says that first responders found chemicals in the residence, but didn't see any explosive devices.

The incident is still under investigation, but terrorist activity is not likely.

Instead, authorities say that the man possibly made model rockets.

"Everything we have on this gentleman, this was just a hobby for him. There's nothing to indicate that it was anything more than that at this point," Lt. Campbell said.

The man involved in the incident was taken to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

His wife, who was also in the house, was not injured.
