Former Chico Police Chief Mike Dunbaugh is returning to his old post, temporarily.

Chico city manager Mark Orme announced at Tuesday night's city council meeting that Dunbaugh has agreed to serve as interim police chief when Kirk Trostle retires at the end of the month.

Trostle has served as police chief for about two and a half years. Dunbaugh, who previously served as police chief in Chico and Santa Rosa for more than ten years, will run the department during the nationwide recruitment process for a permanent police chief.
