Authorities in southern California have captured an inmate who walked away from a Glenn County conservation camp earlier this week.
Jorge Macedo, 32, walked away from the Valley View Conservation Camp in Elk Creek between 11:30 p.m. Sunday night and 12:30 a.m. Monday morning. He was arrested by the Santa Maria Police Department at a motel Tuesday night.
According to the California Department of Corrections, Macedo was transported to the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo and is being returned to the California Correctional Center in Susanville.
Macedo is just the second of 4,300 inmates assigned to five different fire conservation camps to attempt an escape. Cal Fire officials say there are strict eligibility requirements that have to be met before joining these crews.
Macedo was sentenced to prison in March of 2015 for possession of a controlled substance, and he was scheduled to be released on July 25, 2018.
