An investigation is underway after a Tehama County Jail inmate was found dead in his cell Tuesday morning.
Edward Jay Robinson, 62, was found unresponsive on the floor of a cell by corrections officers, just about 30 minutes after he was transported to an observation cell for being disruptive in a jail housing unit.
After being placed in the Observation Cell at 7:29 a.m. Robinson was checked on by jail staff at 7:42 a.m. and again at 7:55 a.m. and was found to be breathing. During a routine check of the cell area at 8:02 a.m. Jail Staff found Robinso0n was not breathing and CPR was started by Jail Medical Staff. Robinson was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Robinson was arrested Wednesday January 14 for possession of a dagger, trespassing and public intoxication.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
