"Information" Leads Humboldt County Sheriff's to Body in Baldy Area, Arrest

(UPDATE) 11:05 a.m.- Action News Now has just got off the Phone with Lt. Dave Morey with the Humboldt COunty Sheriff's Department. Lt. Morey indicated the information provided to detectives was from an individual who had knowledge of the homicide, but is not considered a suspect in the case. The Department will not release any more information regarding the individual due to an ongoing investigation. Morey did indicate the homicide occurred sometime on June 17.

The Humboldt County Sheriffs have made an arrest after "information" was provided to them regarding a deceased male they eventually located yesterday in the “Baldy Area” in McKinleyville.

According to the Sheriff Department’s press release, information was provided to detectives of a possible homicide victim, including the location of the body in the area north of C Avenue in McKinleyville, also commonly referred to as the “Baldy Area.” The information provided to the detectives led them to a deceased 33-year-old male whose body was found near a foot trail at 3:00 p.m. yesterday. Based on the information provided to them from witnesses and the condition of the deceased male, the death was determined to be a homicide.

After reviewing the evidence detectives obtained and witness statements, detectives arrested 21-year-old Michael Raymond Youravish at his residence on the 1400 block of Highland Avenue in Eureka yesterday at approximately 5 p.m. Youravish was arrested without incident and was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of murder.

Detective Todd Fulton is requesting that any additional witnesses with information about Youravish or information about this investigation to telephone him at 707-268-3646.

The identity of the victim is not being released until a positive identification can be made and family members are notified. The cause of death is not being released at this time.

Action News is currently working on gathering more information regarding how the “information” was obtained by the Sheriff’s Department and how long the victim’s body was in the area. We will provide the latest on this story as it continues to unfold.
