SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Buildings were evacuated in a Bay Area city when a couple found a bomb that was later determined to be inert.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports a woman brought the bomb to Union City Police in the backseat of her car, saying she and her husband found it as they were walking along railroad tracks.
Union City Police Lt. Mathias Pardo says the tank round looked realistic enough to warrant the evacuation of the police building, City Hall, a public library and other nearby buildings.
Alameda County Sheriff's Department spokesman J.D. Nelson said the bomb unit tested the round and found it was inert.
A search of the area where the couple found the projectile didn't turn up any similar items.
