The Butte County District Attorney's Office is sending a message to anyone thinking of lighting up fireworks illegally over the Fourth of July weekend.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey says lighting or even possessing fireworks in any part of Butte County, with the exception of Oroville and Gridley is illegal.

According to Ramsey, anyone who does light or possess fireworks outside of those city limits will face fines upwards of a $1000 and six months in jail. Additionally, anyone who negligently sets a fire while using fireworks could face felony charges, and will be "vigorously prosecuted."
