Hwy 99 reopens in Sutter County after fatal accident

(UPDATE) 1:20 p.m.- We have learned the victim of the fatal accident on Hwy 99 this morning was a 49-year-old female, her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the California Highway Patrol, two other adult passengers where in the vehicle with the woman at the time of the accident but only suffered minor injuries.

(UPDATE) 11:34 a.m.- Highway 99 near the Feather River Bridge has reopened, according to Caltrans.

Traffic on Hwy 99 is currently blocked in both directions at Sacramento Avenue south of Yuba City, according to CHP’s Traffic Incident website.

The estimated time for the roadway to reopen is 11 a.m.

The accident was first reported just after 8:15 a.m. this morning. According to initial reports, a red pickup truck traveling south on Hwy 99 entered the northbound lanes directly into a big rig. The accident also spilled approximately 10 to 15 gallons of fuel onto the roadway and into its shoulder.

Southbound traffic is being diverted off at Hwy 113 to I-5 and back onto Hwy 99. Northbound traffic is being diverted off at Nicholas to Hwy 70 and back onto Hwy 99.
