The husband of a missing Chico woman appeared in a Glenn County courtroom Friday, where he pleaded not guilty to animal cruelty charges.

Zir Weems faces five animal cruelty charges in connection to the death of a Rottweiler.

Weems was arrested Thursday September 25 on animal cruelty charges, authorities say his negligent treatment of a Rottweiler led to the dog's death.

Weems' wife Angelica, 23, has been missing since Saturday September 13, and just hours after she was last seen, Zir Weems was found with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.

The Willows Police Department is continuing to investigate her disappearance and is asking that anyone with information call Sgt. Troy McIntyre at 934-3456.
