Husband of missing Chico woman arrested on unrelated charges

Willows Police, with the assistance of the Chico Police Department arrested Zir Weems, the husband of missing Chico woman Angelica Weems Wednesday on charges unrelated to his wife's disappearance.

Zir Weems was arrested Wednesday morning in Chico on multiple animal cruelty charges out of Glenn County, officals confirmed.

Zir Weems was cleared from a medical facility in Chico this morning and then taken into custody by law enforcement on a warrant that was issued last week.

Authorities say Zir Weems' negligent treatment of a Rottweiler led to the dog's death, he has been booked into the Butte County jail on one felony and five misdemeanor counts, including subjecting an animal to needless suffering. He is awaiting transfer to the Glenn County Jail where he will be held on an $18,000 bond.

Zir Weems' wife Angelica, 23, has been missing since Saturday September 13, and just hours after she was last seen, Zir Weems was found with multiple self-inflicted stab wounds.

The Willows Police Department is continuing to investigate her disappearance and is asking that anyone with information call Sgt. Troy McIntyre at 934-3456.
